News and Apple Count
MAY 16, 2016
A little catch-up news:
There were 17 attendees at our grafting workshop, April 2nd. Paul Telck, Master Gardener and Heritage Orchard Restoration expert, lead the lively sessions. This session was never publicly advertised as it was filled up by those people already part of the Apple Project. If this kind of activity interests you, email me, and I'll add you to next years list.
Now in mid-May, we are anxiously waiting for green leaves to emerge from our grafts. It is exciting to see activity from our carefully harvested scions, and know that we have saved, or started a new tree

Yes, some of us have green leaves emerging from our grafts. This is so rewarding! Last week two trees from last years' grafts were adopted by enthusiastic new parents to be planted in yards in La Veta. One tree is really an orphan, as its tag was lost in the grafting process, but I know it came from an heritage tree that bears good fruit, as those were the only scions I gathered the year before. The other tree moved one yard and replaced an old tree that was felled by a spring storm. So, we are slowly encouraging our heritage tree types to continue.
